No reply bloggers are a bit of a pain, aren't they? No chance to start up friendly bloggy conversations, just a big fat empty no reply space.
Do you want to know why I am (well, why I was, if my current plan is successful) one of these slightly tiresome creatures? I've had a few messages in recent weeks (mostly in the wake of FQ Retreat, after which I picked up another couple of dozen blogs to follow, and mostly lovely Judith - everyone else gave up after telling me once, but Judith kept reminding me!) enquiring why I'm a no reply blogger, and it seems only fair to explain properly.
You see, It's all because I defected from Blogger (this is a typepad blog, in case you're reading this in a Reader and can't be bothered to come and check what I am), and Google Does Not Approve of people who do not use it.
Sandi from Piecemeal Quilts has a great and thorough explanation of this, but the short version is that if I comment on a Blogger blog while signed in on Typepad rather than Google, the blogger is just left with a big fat 'no reply blogger' if they try to reply to my comment by email. In order to reply to me, they have to click through to my blog, find the 'about me' section and hunt down my email address. Ridiculous, right? Google essentially punishes anyone who doesn't wish to use Blogger by forcing them to become no reply bloggers.
I actually considered returning to Blogger purely to solve this glitch, but (a) I really can't face the technology-wrangling involved in moving my blog and (b) the teenager in me absolutely refuses to be dictated to by some giant corporation.
However, in a bid to actually allow people to reply to me, I have attempted (possibly successfully, possibly not) to update my Google profile to link directly to my typepad blog, and to have a reply option when I comment on blogs. If you happen to receive a comment from me any time soon and attempt to reply and it doesn't work, I'd be eternally grateful if you could let me know, because I'm really not sure if I've done it right!
Of course, if you do want to contact me in a normal, boring, old fashioned way, my email address can be found on the 'contact me' page up on the menu bar.
